Payroll Administrator

Team: Payroll
Location: Northampton
Reports to job title and name: Bureau Director – Michelle Cousins
Salary: £20,000 pro rata – part time c.20 hours, negotiable


We have over 18 years’ experience in providing payroll services to a portfolio of clients diverse in nature and scale within both the private and public sector. Our experience covers small business start-ups which may require more dedicated support right through to large employers in the industrial and services sectors who often have complex payroll structures. As we grow, our search for talent increases - we now have an exciting opening for a Payroll Administrator to be based in our Northampton office. 

We are looking for talented individual with a meticulous approach to dealing with Payroll issues, who is confident communicating with people by telephone, email and in person up to board level.


Every day is different so what’s required from you:

  • Data entry on to the in-house computer system
  • Weekly and monthly payroll preparation for the company workforce
  • Investigating and resolving payroll queries
  • Statutory calculations such as SSP, SMP, SPP etc
  • P11ds, P45s, P46s
  • Maintaining starter and leaver records accurately
  • Ad hoc payroll administration and time sheet processing
  • Responding to internal and external queries
  • Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data
  • Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analysing information
  • Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential

Skills, knowledge & experience

You will need to show evidence of the following:

  • 3 Years’ experience within a Bureau environment
  • Working knowledge IRIS Payroll Professional
  • Up to date legislative understanding
  • Good understanding of Auto Enrolment
  • Good level of Microsoft proficiency
  • The ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining accuracy and pace
  • Self-starter mentality, with the ability to drive own work load
  • Collaborative approach driving both personal and team objectives to succeed
